Finger in the Pie are proud to announce two new specialised courses: Character Cabaret and Boylesque, led by the inimitable Alexander Luttley (Pi the Mime). These courses will be ideal for performers and previous Finger in the Pie students looking to hone their skills even further.
Character Cabaret is a course for performers wanting to create cabaret routines based on three dimensional, physically distinctive and entertaining characters. Students should have previous experience of performance, though not necessarily within cabaret or physical theatre.
By experimenting with physicality, rhythms, timing and narrative, classically trained mime and physical theatre performer Pi the Mime will guide you through a course of exercises, challenges and inspirations to help you build a performance ready cabaret act. Expect clown, song, spoken word, character comedy, and of course mime! Graduates will then present these new acts at a public and industry showcase at an established London venue.
– An overview of the Cabaret industry in London today
– Experience in several exercises and tools with which to develop character
– An understanding of how to safely warm up
– A complete, personal, performance ready act
– How to communicate with an audience
– A showcase performance with industry attendees in the audience
– Professional performance photographs
– Professional performance video
Pi the Mime is the winner of a 2015 Inspiring People in Cabaret Award: “He inspires his students to see beyond the strip and realise a wonderful array of personas. His showcase last year was full of potential future stars who largely eschewed the standard gown-and-glove shtick for nuanced and intelligent characterisations.” Winner of the 2015 Best New Talent Cwtch Award and shortlisted for Best Burlesque artist in the 2015 London Cabaret Awards, he performs in cabaret clubs and venues across the UK every week as a professional cabaret mime and in other guises.
The cost of this course includes 10 weeks of workshops and a public and industry showcase.
